<VV> Wiring question

I have a question concerning the 1965 wiring diagram. I'm trying to get
my reverse lights working and I was trying to repair the switch on the
transmission. The center pin in the switch (the part that moves) seems
to be grounded. Thus, it seems that closing the switch grounds the
wire? But, the lights themselves are grounded, so this would indicate
that the switch is supposed to break the +12VDC wire. So, looking at
the wiring diagrams, I find a second switch in the front! Where is that
one located physically?? Or is that a mistake in the wiring diagram? I
repaired the switch I have, but only gave it one connection, which
grounds when the switch is activated. My plan is to use that to ground
a relay and turn on the reverse lights with that. My question is can I
use the B/LG wire to provide the power for the relay? Something like this:
---12v (fused) --- 86 ---- 85 --- trans switch (ground when closed
which activates the relay)
---12v (fused) --- 30 ---- 87 --- reverse lights (grounded)
30, 85, 86, 87 are relay terminals...
What do you think? Will this work? Or should I just break down and
spend $68+ for a new switch??
