<VV> Corsa Dues Increase

Yes indeedy Joe - Since many of these "anti-dues increase" folks want
the slack being taken up by (other) volunteers. Corsa is going to cost
what Corsa costs. Sorry but I realize in todays Alice In Wonderland
political/economic climate we're not supposed to understand ideas like
that. After all - can't "someone else" take care of us?
I would submit that cutting back on the Communique will drive away more
members than raising the dues. Obviously it's a perception of value
received - but if that's ALL IT IS then we're doomed no matter what.
Corsa will never survive if it's only a "this for that" simple business
relationship. If the idea of promoting an organization that supports our
hobby - for it's own sake - doesn't rank with other more prosaic reasons
then let's lock the doors and go home.
If you are going to drop out of Corsa because the dues got raised a
pittance - and you can't link the value to you - then see ya. As has
been pointed out, a dues increase of this kind is a hardship to NO ONE.
Gas doubling in price over a few months - heating up 50%, food up 20% -
losing your job - THOSE are hardships - not a 5$ a year increase.
Fixed income? I kind of get tired of hearing that one. The truth is the
vast majority of us are on "fixed" incomes. Suggesting otherwise seems
to imply that people who work for someone else can pull money out of
their ass any time they want. I'm actually in the minority of Americans
in that I do not have a "fixed" income. So I and my bretheren have it
made because we're NOT on a fixed income? Does that mean we have extra
money any time we want it? Does "not fixed" mean it's always onward and
upward?
There is a mentality in this country that it's just traditional to wail
like a hound whenever something costs us more. We'll expend a lot of
energy to do that but none if any to understand the reasons why. We
can't control the price of gas, food, housing, government or much of
anything else so in the little cases where we think we can we'll do so
with vitriol and excessive puffing - and DAMN any suggestion that we
might want to think first. Do we seriously compare the Corsa
organization to the Federal government or the oil companies?
There is no question that Corsa is going to have to change a lot of
things. But no matter what Corsa does it will still need to function
economically in the real world.
The question is - do you support Corsa and the hobby for it's own sake?
If you don't, then like it or not, you are part of the problem - a lot
more than a little dues increase.
