I also prefer the "cold" method for valve adjusting. No mess, no hot oil splashing on you, no oil burning on exhaust, etc. It also seems pretty accurate and straight forward. Of course, your engine oil is in good condition and you have good oil pressure? Right? I hope this is helpful.
