<VV> Membership question -- Insurance??

I may have confused things on mentioning the officers and board.  I 
am sure they are covered on a national level.  The question is, would 
someone with the same position in a local chapter be covered if sued 
personally?  Even if not a member of national?  I suspect not in the 
later case.  How about someone that organizes and sets up an event 
and is not a national?  Would they be covered.

And let us say for arguments sake that the insurance is foolish 
enough to cover personal liability of non-members (which means the 
policy covers everyone in the United States and abroad, which I 
doubt) ... should a chapter with 100 local members and one national 
member receive the same insurance benefits as a chapter with 100 
local members that all belong to national?  I think not.  The 
insurance is paid through dues.

If the insurance does cover non-paying people, we should change the 
policy and save money.

Remember -- I am talking about the personal liability.  In our horse 
club when we have a club trail ride we are insured.  If there is a 
problem, then not only is the club itself covered by insurance, so 
are the officers and board and organizers of the trail ride.  When 
there is a problem, the club will not be the only one sued -- the 
individuals will, count on it.  So the insurance is critical.  Club 
insurance policies are not all that different -- I suspect our policy 
will defend individual who are national members, and not people who 
are not members.  If the policy is not that way, it should be in 
fairness to those that pay dues and server the club.

I would love to see a magazine article on the insurance policy -- 
analyzing what we have, who is paying for it, and what we should have.
