When I used to have an airplane (1943 Taylorcraft L2M) our "club" -
Alamo Liaison Squadron - used to give rides and such during fly in
events. We had a waiver of liability that everyone signed before they
got in the airplane. A friend of mine (a lawyer) said the waivers
weren't worth the paper they were written on because the relatives of
the passenger didn't sign one - so, THEY could sue if something happened
to the passenger (even if it wasn't fatal) i.e. if Joe got hurt or
injured during the flight, he could just have his wife/kids/family sue
me.. He also said the waivers had to be written very carefully, or else
the passenger could sue anyway. I took the safest and easiest route -
I quit giving rides...
