The cost of travel and the advancing age of the Corvairs (and many of their
owners) will impact both the locations chosen for Corsa conventions, and
the timing/scheduling of convention events. I have been attending Corsa
conventions since 1975, all of them since 1980. Events and schedules have
changed over the years, usually for good reasons. Some of the earliest
conventions ended on the Sunday, with awards for the Sunday autocross given out the
day after the Saturday night banquet. People just kind of dispersed after
the event. Availability of sites for the autocross, often local parking
lots, usually drove the slalom event to a Weekend day. Only recently have the
autocrosses been able to be held on weekdays at all.

In the early days, more people did drive long distances to the convention.
Many younger folks and families took long driving vacations in their
Corvair. Not so much of that anymore. As the conventions shifted to more
"regional" events, appealing more to the folks a day or two days away, moving the
events to the weekdays, allowing weekends for traveling made sense, since
it allowed one week of vacation to be spent on vacation, using weekends for
traveling time. If indeed, the area of participation shrinks again, perhaps
due to costs, the day schedule could shift again, maybe back to the
weekend, since less travel time would be needed.

In the past, the local host clubs have run both the Economy Run and the
Rally on the same day. In order to allow folks to run only one or the other, a
reasonable option, care must be taken in planning the routes. If Corsa or
the local club wants to shrink back a day, this is really the only option.
The Lexington car display, on the downtown streets was a really successful
event. Much of that was due to the outstanding support of the city. That
support is hard to come by today as many city governments and Chamber of
Commerce have moved head into sand due to budget constraints. Perhaps Cedar
Rapids will overcome this.

If folks would prefer changes to the way the convention is scheduled, they
would have to make their wishes known. Besides writing here, a note to the
Corsa directors - _corsabod at corvair.org_ (mailto:corsabod at corvair.org) -
will get them your message.
