 Yep, that was one example of REALLY trying hard to make them fade! I had semimetallic shoes at the time. 

Probably THE reason to go to discs is they're easier to modulate than drums.

Ever run them on a track? That's about the only place you'll get them  to 
fade, but that depends a lot on the material on the shoes. I had Kevlar and  
they didn't fade, that I could tell.
