You probably want 7075T651. It costs hardly any more than 6061, is stronger, machines more easily, and anodizes better, should one wish to do so. However, it's not weldable, which 6061 is.
Cost? Well, any suitable aluminum alloy is going to run about the same, no matter what you choose. Not sure what you mean by expensive, quantity definitely helps! One of the advantages of casting, FAR less waste/

I've done some digging on the 'Net for pricing on aircraft-grade
aluminum--can anyone tell me--if I have a part that's to be machined to a maximum
4.5" x 6.5" in cross-section, just how much should I allow over those
dimensions when I go to purchase the metal? I don't want to go excessively
oversize--that 6061 is g**-awful expensive.
