And here lies the underlying problem of it all.
some were tried and true Pontiac/Olds/Buick/Chevy people.
But then they were burned badly, and became Ford or Mopar people.
Then burned again and went to an import.
Now lost forever to something unheard of for many years in the US.
Quality!
Say what you will about buying american, but other than my Corvairs, I
despise GM.
Had several that were junk, yes they were used cars, but I had the dubious
honor of having to trepair my grandfather's Corvette. Helped make me a
MOPAR man, and yes even a Ford man. Then last year, Gasp..........I bought
a Prius. So far so good, but I bought it for mileage as the cost of gas was
killing me. And the US automakers did not have anything to compare.
Do I feel guilty?
somewhat, but a car was a major expense to me, so I bought something I
liked. I still have all my hobby cars, wife has a Jeep Cherokee(right hand
steering) but no accolades there, and I have my Dodge Ram pickup, a 96 Indy
500 pace truck and it's a keeper.
There are many factors to many people, but building excrement may be the
major one.

With the announced scheduled demise of Pontiac, I was reminded of a letter
to Car & Driver magazine back in the early 70s. The writer noted the pain
he had gone through with his Pontiac LeMon(s). He then added his version
of
the Pontiac Advertising tagline of the time. "We build Excrement - -
Pontiac!"
