These gear reduction style GM starters have been around a while -- they 
are lighter, and they really crank!  But just because this design does 
not use the end frame support does not mean that a bad flywheel will not 
break them (or, if they are strong enough, maybe your bell housing).

This starter uses a custom machined adapter housing on a now-standard 
part of the GM product line. Have you asked any of our suppliers if 
anyone can machine up that adapter housing so it fits a 60?  Any good 
machine shop should be able to fix you up, either building a new adapter 
or modifying the one that is shipped.  Since I haven't seen one of 
Clark's adapters, I can't say, but maybe there is adequate material for 
one to just drill/tap their own new holes to mount the starter motor to 
the adapter in the correct 1960 orientation.  Or, maybe with a little 
creative effort with a hacksaw, that motor may bolt up to a  modified 
1960 end frame?  Really, I think the new motor's bolt circle diameter is 
too small to make that last mating work easily.
