You can try using silicone oil (NOT a hydrocarbon oil) on an electric hot plate and a lab thermometer (or "borrow" the wife's candy thermometer) to check the high temp. Same setup for calibrating the CHT gauge thermistor - just be careful since it's rather "delicate".

Craig replies:
The standard snap switch (coarse thread) closes at 525F and the 140/turbo
switch closes at 575F. You won't be able to get there with boiling water.
