Hi Seth,
Looking for the standard equipment on a regular 65 Corsa.
Thanks,
Jay
Jay - In selling all Corvairs, even the Corsa, Chevrolet relied on options
to "Personalize" the car for the intended user. Many people actually ordered
the car they wanted and waited for the factory to build it for them. Of course,
the dealerships had to have cars in stock, so they normally ordered cars
with certain commonly desired options. The Corsa had the 140HP motor as
standard. The 180HP turbo was an option. By 1965 seat belts (in the front) were
standard. A radio was not standard, but was ordered on most cars. There is a radio
"block-off" plate which relaces the chrome trim around the factory radio and
covers over the hole where the radio would have been. The heater was a
"sort-of" option. Basically it came on all of the cars unless you placed an order
including the "Heater delete" option. Almost all of those cars went to
Hawaii. The Corsa, even the Convertible and the turbos, had the 3-speed
transmission as standard and the Corsa offered the 4-speed as an option. The PowerGlide
was not available on the Corsa. Left-side (Outside) rear view mirror was
optional on most Corvairs, it might have standard on the Corsa. The right side
outside mirror was not standard on any Corvair, just an option. Have I helped
you? Many of the items you would think of today as standard equipment were
options (or not even available) in 1965. In late 1965, when the 1966 models
were already out, the federal government required a number of items to be made
standard. Windshield washers and two-speed wipers and back-up lights were
then required. (The 1965 Corsa had the back-up lights as standard, the 1965 500
models did not!) - Seth Emerson
