Did I remember "helicoil" wrong ? I remember using an insert that fit
into an oversized spark ply hole to repair a damage head thread, but
maybe that wasn't an official "helicoil" ?
What's the difference between a helicoil and a thread insert ?

Well it is not a K&D insert. Try a typical broken bolt removal tool to
get
it out and then helicoil it (or use a K&D insert--I've got two that are
still
good after over twenty years.
