Recently we veered off topic to discuss Edie Adams, Corvair-era chanteuse
and sexy pitch woman for Muriel cigars. Her name came up because she was the
widow of comedian, Ernie Kovacs who died in a car crash when he wrapped his
Corvair station wagon around a telephone pole. Today's New York Times reports
that she died Wednesday of pneumonia and cancer. The obituary mentioned
Ernie Kovacs' fatal car crash but, thankfully, neglected to mention the marque of
the car. Also mentioned in the write up was Ms. Adams' performance of the
song, "That's All" on the final episode of "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" in
April 1960. The song is a bitter-sweet melody made all the more so in this
rendition given that the show represented the swan song in the still iconic
television comedy team of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and the fact that the couple
was, at the time, going through a bitter divorce. Watch it on YouTube and
just try not to get misty-eyed.
