Back in 1962 I was an 18 year old kid trying to convince my mother to trade
the old 60 Falcon in on a new car.
Actually, I tried to get her to buy a new 60 Corvair but she didn't like
them. That's how we ended up trading the old 53 Chevy on the Falcon.
We ended up with the lone of a new Jetfire for a week end from the local
Olds dealer. It sorta helped that my mom was single at the time and the
salesman was real interested!
She drove the new Olds home and didn't see me for days once I got behind the
wheel! I was all over the valley trying to drag race anything and
everything! I was going through Turbo Rocket Fluid like it was
water....which it mostly was. I wanted that car! However it was not to be.
My mother was a lot smarter than I thought she was. I would have to continue
to drive the old six banger four door automatic Falcon. (With both doors
open the back seat was fairly roomy!GG!)
Oh well, I could still ride around with my buddy in his dads 61 Monza 4
speed.

As for driving my Corvair....all summer long we have driven the 67 Vert at
every chance. We have been to dozens of cruise ins, car shows and all the
local (8) Dairy Queens Many times. We did our first parade also. The top has
been up once to show someone it did have one! In all the Corvairs, dune
buggies, other cars, motorcycles and trucks I have owned, I have never had
one that attracts the attention this car does. It is Royal Plumb. To guys
it's purple! We have never had it out one time that we didn't get a thumbs
up or a smile at the least from people. During the big parade a guy ran out
of the crowd and asked me to stop so his wife could get a photo of him with
the car! I never had that happen before.
We will have the car on the road tomorrow after work...maybe a supper at DQ!
I love this car.......it makes my shyness go away!GGGG!
