A couple of years ago, I was tossing out some V6 leftover stuff and I picked
out and saved a wire loom for the V6 ignition wires. Many newer GM cars
(Last 20 years) have used these plastic clips. The Corvair, of course, pre-dated
these and used rubber-dipped metal clips and riveted them to the upper
shroud. These clips would retain the ignition wires below the fan belt (On
1961-1969 models) keeping them from being torn up in the fan. On many cars, the
rubber has long since departed, and the remaining metal clips, while they will
often perform the function of retaining the wires, they can also damage the
outer insulation on the wires. These late model clips are all plastic and have a
hinged upper retainer clip that snaps down over the wires to retain them in
place. That retainer can snap up to remove the wires. In their regular
operation, they snap onto a metal clip to mount on the motor, but they have a
mounting hole which could be utilized for individual use. If you are hanging around
the junkyards and see these on junking motors, they are worth picking up.
The actual plastic piece is available at Chevy dealers P/N 12163607 - priced at
$1.06 each. Highly recommended! - Seth Emerson
