Right, but the 'big cars' were also front engine, right ?
That seems to be the deal breaker due to the cost and the economical
nature of the Corvair.
The Corvair's 'economical nature' was the cause of its demise - it
should have been marketed as a more expensive 'sports' car, and sold to
a different market who would have appreciated it.
Most people (imho) who DID appreciate the Corvair's roadworthiness got a
4speed anyway, so they didn't have this "no park" problem.

the aluminum pg's were very popular in drag cars around here.
they are a tough box!
