Not necessarily. Very often, a layer of bondo over a perfectly respectable 
welded repair, that has been applied to return the correct profile, can be 
thick enough to prevent the magnet sticking.

Conversely, a layer of bondo that has been applied to cover a 'horror' can 
be 2-3 mm thick. I will send you a picture offlist.

And then there are the people like several ones of my acquaintance, who mix 
iron filings with their bondo (and yes, it works).
