<VV> Late Convertable Back seat

In trying to find out why my power top wont operate, I traced it down to a  
cut wire (the red/white trace wire) under the plug going through the "shelf" 
and  down to who knows where. 
I got the bench of the back seat out but the back of the seat moves  slightly 
at the bottom but won't come lose. 
Any suggestions from our able mechanics?
