I have been looking into gpm oil requirements for a Corvair engine. I came across comments touting Pure Power Oil Filter. Basically two points I offer up for opinions by our esteemed readers...
First, the claim that most oil filters trap debris by oil flowing across oil filter paper, not thru it. "Most "throw away" filters flow oil at 7-9 gpm and is known in the industry as a "nominal extraction" filter. In a "throw away" filter the oil DOES NOT go THROUGH the paper filter --it is designed to run the oil BY the paper element. Small (NOMINAL) amounts of debris are then "snagged" or settle in the valley of the pleats. In most paper filters the Bypass opens up shortly after engine startup.

  Smitty Says:  I regret to inform you that I will be removing the Boss of BBRT from the list for a while.  He obviously has become hooked on the missguided preachings of some engineering cult and is no longer able to recognize reality when he sees it.  I will be immediately forwarding to him one die grinder motor and a 3" abrasive wheel with which he can open up a spin on Corvair filter to examine the intended internal oil flow.
