<snip>I checked out the 24F at Wal*Mart the other day. 24F has the battery
posts on the right ends, but it's a huge battery. Really seems like
overkill.
They listed a 26R as an alternative but didn't have any in stock. I'll
have to stop by Advance Auto next. Steve <unsnip>

Craig replies:
Why not go for "overkill" for an extra $5? The original batteries for
early-late models were 26F and the larger 24. The original HD (24) battery
didn't have the "reversed" ("F")terminals and thus required longer cables -
that's why Clarks lists different cables for LM with HD battery. The common
field upgrade that works in all cases (original 26F or optional 24) is the
"never installed at the factory" 24F, which has the reversed terminals.

Why opt for a 24? Corvairs don't always start easily (hot restart, vapor
lock, long winter naps) and you can use all of a group 24 getting it
restarted. Well worth the extra few bucks, imho.
