While it ruins the plated finish, the "old timer" way to clean sludge out of
a (metal) crankcase pipe (off the engine) was to ream it out a little so air
could flow through and then light the sludge with a cutting torch. Once lit,
keep the torch in the end and an orange ring will progress down the pipe
(visible from the outside) as the sludge burns. Add extra oxygen (torch
cutting lever) as needed. When the orange ring gets to the end, it's clean!
(This sounds like something Matt would come up with, doesn't it?)
