Lost, Last Corvair
HCC West Coast Associate Editor Jeff Koch recently visited the Art Astor Collection in Anaheim, California, and spotted what was advertised as the last Corvair-a green 1969 500 coupe with about 850 miles on the odometer.
After a little checking with Kent Sullivan and Dave Newell of the Corvair Society of America, it turns out that statement may not be 100-percent accurate. According to Newell, the last Corvair manufactured-with a VIN of 105379W706000-so far remains unaccounted for. The next-to-last Corvair-VIN 5999-has a home in the Corvair Museum in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The Corvair that Jeff spotted carries VIN 5214.
As it turns out, VIN 5214 was the last Corvair remaining in GM inventory. In other words, the last one sold. According to Sullivan, press photos from 1969 show that VIN 6000 came out of the factory as a Monza coupe. So the question remains, what happened to VIN 6000?

June 27-29 at Anaheim, Ca. The Art Astor collection of approx. 250 cars plus
lots of other collectibles. Some very high end and rare cars. If RM auctions
says it is the last Corvair built, it very probably is. I have not gone to
RM's website yet but it may even have info and a pic of the car.
