Scotty - That is true, manual only - unless a seal goes on the PG- Then  both 
the diff and the trans get contaminated! 
 
But the matching holes are not the only path for fluid between the manual  
trans and the diff. It is what assures the commonality, but I believe a second  
path through the upper ball bearing assemblies would allow fluid to 
interchange.  Personally, I hate transmissions - well - taking them apart anyway. - Seth
