<VV> NOS Clock (Answer according to GM)

Good info from Craig, as usual. :-)

Couple of other notes: The various templates that were included with the
actual accessories & original instructions are generally NOT reproduced in
the accessory installation reference manuals.

1966 was indeed the last year and was unavailable as a repro--and indeed,
unknown to the person who does all of those repros--until Mark Corbin and
Mike McKeel loaned him their original several years ago. I facilitated the
connection. The '66 original book is apparently super-duper rare; perhaps
because it is loose-leaf and not bound like earlier years. (The repro is
bound.)

Clark's sells a collection of info from the Chevy Service News that
includes, for each year, the paint formulas for interior and exterior
colors. See C6960 ('60), C6961 ('61-4 plus FC), and C6962 ('65-9). Very
reasonably priced. Note that C6960 accidentally left out the paint formula
chart for 1960. I pointed this out them recently and perhaps they will
include it.

Don asked:
<snip>
My 1964 Spyder is color code 948. It a maroon color. I have found what the
seller and I think is a NOS clock, still in the box.

The clock is a silver color. If the clock had been ordered with the car
would it have matched the car paint color, or would

It have been silver. The one in the box is a silver color. Thanks for your
help. This is my first time using this. <unsnip>

Craig replies:
I took a look in my 1964 accessory installation manual and here's what it
says:

Step 5: Insert split section of paint mask around set stem of clock asm.
See view A.

Step 6 Fasten mask to lens by placing masking tape over hole in mask. Also
cover stem with tape, See fig 5.

Step 7: Paint clock asm., mounting bracket & trim plate (if required) to
match interior.

Here's a note of interest:
NOTE: (On Corvair) Close cover on Ash Tray & install into instrument panel
with handle next to clock. This is 180-deg. From previously installed
position.

So, I guess if the installer wanted to do the job correctly, it was supposed
to be painted and Chevy actually included a paint mask to make the job
easier.

The accessory installation manuals are a bound version of all the little
instruction sheets that were included in each accessory box; there's a
separate manual for each year, though I've never seen one later than '66. I
have '64 and '65.
