I re-read my email and it didn't make it clear that my 66 Monza is now a 4spd and was when I took it to Portland for the convention.
Whether an automatic or a 4 spd, I flat towed this car and kept the speed down to 55-60 mph for many trips.
I agree that those who have had problems with the tranny or dif. that was caused by flat towing should speak up. This issue comes up once or twice a year and the same arguments for and against seem to appear. Perhaps a survey or study should be made to resolve this issue, once and for all.

Bob,
I flat towed my 66 Monza to the Oregon convention, then on up to Tacoma, Washington and back to Bullhead City, Az with no problems. The only time I started and ran the car thru its gears was when I disconnected it in Portland and again in Tacoma.
This car was an automatic and I towed it the same way numerous times to Palm Springs, Phoenix and various trips to California behind our motorhome. Never had a problem with it but I did start the engine every 100 or so miles and put it thru the forward/reverse gears while still hooked up to the motorhome.
