i never drop the tank on cars or fc's  to do tubing work (start  shootin') , 
i push the new lines thru and secure at both ends with a dab of  silicone  
rubber.  you definitely can get the tubing in some of the  existing clips with a 
long stout screwdriver.  you can cut the ends off and  pull the old tubing out 
to make a rough pattern for the new piece. when you cut  the tubing off close 
to the fittings you can use a 1/4 inch drive socket to get  the nut loose.
i have done this to several vehicles over the years with no problem.
just double check any brake work for leaks (with a helper pushing very hard  
) after you bleed it out.
remember to double flare all brake tubing and no compression  fittings.
