<VV> PG question - fluid level?

I'm really not a Corvair PowerGlide type of person, and have somewhat 
limited experience with them. So, I ask --

If your tranny seems to loose function on a fairly tight radius off 
ramp, sort of like it is sucking air, would that indicate a low fluid 
level or a need for a windage tray?  Please, no 'check the dipstick' 
responses -- that really won't answer the question of, "Can you corner a 
PG hard enough to loose fluid uptake?"
