The only horrid thing about it is YOU. It's called "lack of owner
maintainance." Plastic doesn't, after all, lasts forever, despite the hype
about it being "forever." When it gets bad, replace it. Simple as that.
I've NEVER had a problem with the hot wire terminal block (that "red
thingy" to which you refer) because I never let it deteriorate to the point
of being a trouble spot. I've had three dozen Corvairs and owned Corvairs
since before they stopped building them. The "longest-ownership" one I have
is a '67 that I bought in '71. No problem with the terminal block on ANY of
my Corvairs, including that car.
So, stop blaming the item and start blaming the REAL problem, YOU.
