i always heat the housing enough for the old bearing to drop out , then
quickly put the new one in. it usually goes almost home with very little force.
you can tell home by the mark in the housing left by the old one.
i have had now troubles doing it this way on a lot of housings. the only one
that bit me recently had been done elsewhere probably cold. a small chunk of
the neck broke off , but the main support area seems ok.(probably ok to use)
if i need any force at all to install it , i have a block fixture i made to
set the housing on that supports the middle area . simple to build , and
it has probably saved a few housings over the years.
