Tim,
     Since the cost of premium gas is only about  7% more than regular, just 
use premium gas and get both better mileage AND  better power than you would 
if you detuned the engine so it could use  regular.  Or, if you insist on 
running regular, you have 2  choices.  Run water (not vapor) injection or use one 
of Ray  Sedman's SafeGuards to automatically retard the ignition timing when 
necessary  to prevent pinging or detonation.
