<VV> Early shifting PG

The throttle valve (TV) is on the left side of the transmission, down near
the oil pan. It also serves as the connecting lever between the rod from
the throttle pedal and the rod up through the shroud to the carburetor cross
shaft.

Right now, If this is indeed the problem, the TV position indicates to the
transmission that you don't have the throttle pushed very far, so it
upshifts very early. The more you have your foot in it, the later it shifts.
I've attached a PG diagnosis chart for your reference. Note item #1 under
"Quick upshifts". First, verify the TV. Next on the list is the "E" clip
inside the transmission oil pan - that's a very common issue too.

Adjust the TV by changing the length of the throttle rod between the
transmission lever and the carburetor cross-shaft by adjusting the length of
the swivel (rod-end) at the carburetor cross-shaft in the engine
compartment. If I'm thinking right, the rod needs to be shorter, so
disconnect and spin the swivel so it moves toward the front of the car; try
about 5 turns and see what happens.

Do you have a manual? Let me know which manual you have and I'll locate the
procedure and page for you. (I have all of the factory manuals).

Craig, that was me and I misunderstood what you guys were talking about. I
do not know where the TV is. Could you please tell me where it is and how to
go about doing it. I'm a newbie to Corvairs and am learning by fire. I'm
pretty good at newer cars but when it comes to "old School" i must admit i'm
a little lost. Jason
