Bob,
To add to that tires made after 1999 have a four digit code. First two numbers are the week it was made. Second two numbers are the year. We had a safety discussion about tires at work today. Part of that said tires older than five or six years (depending on whom was sited) are not safe. This is even if the tread is still good. Has to do with the way the tires are chemically breaking down.

Check the other side of the tire. The date is only molded on one
side. Date code is usually in an oval, and right at the end of the
DOT code.
