That is a really good idea but there is another step that should be taken.
Many 'home burnt' CDs to not have an infinite shelf life ... it can be limited to
as little as 2 to 5 years.  It would probably be an idea to choose the photos one 
most wishes to keep and print them on paper and keep in an album ... with a 
second copy to be kept elsewhere in case of fire or hurricane.  Keep some 
prints of everything for insurance purposes.
