Folks
I'm not going to stir the pot--don't have time.
But would like to emphasize the points made by George Jones, who has been a friend and mentor to me for almost 20 years.
(George--how'd you get that Newsletter job? Who did you tick off?)

I have, for the last 20 years that I have been a member of CORSA, held the point of view that decisions made by the board are not necessarily indicative of the opinions of the members in their district.

And furthermore, the Board does not desire to have government of the club "By Referendum".

On important issues like dues increases etc., the only way it seems (and I could be wrong) is that directors could get e-mail or snail mail input from members or chapters. I doubt they get many. And their decisions and votes do not necessarily reflect the opinions held by chapters as groups or by the individual members therein.

Don't get the impression that I don't think that the Board doesn't care what the members think, as I've known most of the directors for many years, and nearly to a person they have all been people whose personality and character I respect.

But at the end of the day, they will vote for THEY feel is the best interest of the club, whether that is 180 degrees out from the opinion of the membership or not.

I've had directors tell me that "VIRTUAL VAIRS IS ONLY 10% OF OUR MEMBERSHIP IF WE BELIEVE EACH VV MEMBER BELONGS TO CORSA---WE WILL NOT VOTE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER BASED ON THE OPINION OF 10% OR LESS OF OUR MEMBERS".

But of course they don't hear from the OTHER MEMBERS AT ALL unless they take the time to write. Writing is a lost art for most people, so they just sit and get pissed, or leave the club.

I'm not saying there even IS a solution to this problem, but as I see it---Virtual Vairs members are as a rule more active and concerned CORSA members than most are. Look at back issues of the magazine----the bulk of the articles are written by V V members.

I happen to have the 10/07 magazine here.
Open Forum letters from
Kent Sullivan,Tim Abney,Dave Newell,Bill Stanley,James Rice, Chuck Sadek, Ed Thompson, Sharon AND Warren Leveque. 9 of 11 letters by V V members

Tech Topics by Doug Mackintosh (a 3-4 page one) but usually articles by Craig Nicol, and other V V members as well.

Does this say anything to the BoD? Perhaps NOT.

I could be wrong, just the way I see it.

Hank
