This discussion is going no where and is getting to be a waste of time and
web space. I think we all realize that CORSA is suffering some financial
trouble. Name one organization that isn't. Membership is dropping and we wonder
why. I wonder how many CORSA members have never been to a national convention.
I for one could never afford a trip across country to go to one. I attended
the Detroit convention and had a great time. I would bet that most members
have never attended one. Maybe CORSA should change its focus on the National
convention and focus on something that is a benefit for all members. The topic
of ins was brought up, Free for CORSA events. Name one other group that you
can get free coverage. That went out with 33 cents a gal gas. If you want
coverage then a fee should be charged. For many years the only benefit I got from
my membership was the Communique which was worth the Dues. CORSA need to
attract new and younger members and I don't believe they will do that by telling
the few people that go to the conventions or belong to local chapter that if
your not a CORSA member stay away. That only makes the prospect list
smaller. Name calling and calling people moochers won't attract people either. In
real life your always going to have them. Deal with it. Look at it as charity.
I have helped many people in this hobby and did it to pay back those who have
helped me. Where I spend my money is my business and no one else's. What I
can afford or not is my business and no one else's. It's talk like this that
drives people away. Positive talk attracts positive people. I think we need to
open CORSA up attract new members and change the focus. When your bills get
larger than your income you need to make cuts or generate more income. New
members means more income. Now we need to look at how to attract them. And
threads like this won't do it. I know of a lot of people who can't afford CORSA
dues. Is it any of my business of where their money goes? NO!! Someday maybe
they will be able to afford it and it's my job to make CORSA look like an
organization they will want to join. That's what our Focus should be on.
I have belonged to CORSA since about 99 and am a member of 3 corvair
clubs. One club is 1700 miles away and one is 3 hours away. The third one is one
that I helped to get going again after it disbanded years ago. Our club
Promotes CORSA and Have many members that belong to CORSA but not all belong.
