CJ asked:
I'm thinking of jerking the 3-speed out of my 65 and replacing it with a
4-spd....
What are the gear-ratio's per 'speed' of the 3-speed's vs 4?
Will a post-65 4-speed work in a 65? I've heard there's some sort of
bolt-pattern discepencies.

Craig replies:
The 65 3-speed is 3.22, 1.84, 1
The 65 4-speed is 3.20, 2.18, 1.44, 1
The 66 4-speed is 3.11, 2.20, 1.47, 1
With a 3.55 axle both the 65 and 66 will launch easily. With a 3.27 axle,
the '65 trans is a little easier to launch in normal driving.
To install the '65 4-sp, you will need:
Transmission
23 1/4" input shaft (64-5 4-sp only)
Transmission support for '65 4sp (only)
Re-work reverse lamp switch
Bolt spacer at front left bolt location
To install the '66 4-sp you will need:
Transmission
24 3/8" input shaft (any 66-9 manual trans)
Transmission support (for any 66-9 manual trans)
Shorten shift rod (it telescopes)
Shorten shift tube stabilizer (or get from '66)
6-bolt 66-9 differential (you lose the dipstick)
Throttle idler
Rework reverse switch
