<VV> gas in oil

The check valves in the fuel pump (mechanical or electric) keep the gas
flowing toward the engine. They stop the flow back towards the fuel tank.
So, if the fuel tank is above the engine, the check valves will allow
the flow toward the engine, not stop it.
So, your fuel pump is OK, as far as the check valves.
But, if the diaphram is cracked, then fuel will flow into the crankcase.
However, it is flowing all the time the engine is running, not just from
gravity. I would pull the pump up enough to see if gas is flowing out
the bottom and into the crankscase.
If the oil stays free of gasoline in normal conditions, I suspect the
floats and needle/seats of not sealing correctly. Maybe the hill angle
jambed the float so it would not seal, but seals on flat ground in
normal operation?

Did this indicate that a part of the fuel pump failed and allowed the fuel from the tank to gravity through it and flow into the engine? Should the fuel pump have stopped the gravity fuel flow past it? First time this kind of problem for me in 40+ years of Corvair ownership.
