I'm pretty sure they are 3/8 fine.  If you can get all metal locking  
nuts, that's ideal.  If not, a Grade 5 will hold the engine up to get  
it on the tow truck (or get you home if that's all that's wrong).   
Double nut them if using the grade 5s for a temporary fix.  Good luck.
