i have had very little problems with fuel pumps over the years , because (i  
think anyway) i always loosen the screws on the cover and push the pushrod up 
as  far as possible with a bar , then tighten the screws. i have done this on 
any  fuel pumps i install since an old timer parts guy suggested that to 
anyone  buying fuel pumps from him years ago.  i think i even read it in a manual  
or on a slip in an old fuel pump box somewhere. i have installed many new 
pumps  without issues , so it must help some.
listening to this list makes me paranoid (very cautious?) putting new pumps  
on these days..as i do not like the electric idea on carbureted cars , unless 
a  lot of safeties are included.
