Don't forget, a *huge* part of this is that tires last a *lot* longer  
than they used to.  Remember the first 40,000 mile tires?  Now  
everything but R tires go at least 40,000.  There are Michelins  
warranted for 80k!  Heck, if you take care of them and rotate them,  
I'd expect most decent tires to last ten years on a 5k per year  
collector car.
