 Still, if it did run without leaking, and it did for three 
days, what gives?

  Smitty Says:   Steve I believe I private posted you that there is no use messing with old needles (or ones with a bad history).  Stick a new needle and seat in there and be done with it.  May not be a perfect match for your carb but if you are in a hurry they are available from most FLAPS.  I have spent too many hours dissasembling, cleaning, examining the neoprene tips.  Have never found anything wrong but a new one always cures them.
