Here's my response to Seth, for some reason it was not posted on vv,
but since you're "don't worry kinda guy" and there aren't many of
them there guys in the corvair principality, I thought you might
get even more worry free reading sorta kinda newer data :))

In various IIHS reports (loss by make and model)
http://www.iihs.org/research/hldi/composite_intro.html
Under the collision category, the Chevrolet Corvette,
and the Ford Mustang have the following ratings:
(1999-01 Corvette) = 61 same year for --- > (Mustang GT = 112)
(2001-03 Corvette) = 103 --- > (Mustang GT = 144)
(2002-04 Corvette) = 113 --- > (Mustang GT = 156)
(2003-05 Corvette) = 138 --- > (Mustang GT = 136)
(2004-06 Corvette) = 148 ---> (Mustang GT = 134)
[All losses are stated in relative terms, with 100 representing the average
collision, i.e. a result of 122 is 22 percent worse than average]
I dare not predict the next year's numbers for Corvette - I guess one
conclusion could be that the rate of "fatal accidents" are reducing but
the rate of collisions are certainly not...
With the exception of a few defective/explosive vehicles and some pilot errors,
collisions are a prerequisite for car related fatalities, which brings me to
my main point:
ummm...I want your Corvette :))

Totally bogus and extremely misleading. If you look at the article in
the second link, this is 1984-1988 data! Sort of old, don't you think?
Unless, of course, the article is trying to make an
anti-sports-car-driver point.
Looking at the most recent IIHS data, of the sixteen cars listed as
having the highest driver death rates, the highest is the Blazer 2wd,
third highest is the Nissan 350Z, the Mustang comes in at twelfth, and
the Eclipse convertible is fifteenth. The four "deadliest" are Blazer,
Acura RSX, Nissan 350Z, and Kia Spectra Hatchback. (Data is 2001-04
models during the 2002-05 model years.)
Looking at insurance company injury losses, the Corvette was below
average at 60 (average is 100), Porsche 911 coupe 35, Porsche 911
convertible 36, etc. The average injury loss for all large sports cars
was 68, midsize sports cars 90, small sports cars 87, and mini sports
cars 81. Of all the eighteen sports cars listed, only the GTO at 114,
the Mustang at 115, and Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible a 134 were above
average.
So, if you're driving a sports car (or if you consider a Corvair to be a
sports car as do I), don't worry, be happy. :-)
