Great idea! Or cut the stem off, and use a hacksaw blade inside the  post to 
split and collapse the tube. 
 
Sorry, the farm boy in me is coming out.. <G>

Just a thought ... given that the seat post is of no  consequence, would it 
not be possible to use an adjustable reamer inside the  seat post, and simply 
ream the aluminium away until ... well .... it's gone.  No danger of damaging 
the finish on the frame, and, although it might be a  little tedious, aluminium 
should ream out fairly  easily.
