<VV> voltmeter again

Now, why didn't I think of that?  It does seem that a voltmeter would not 
need a battery to read voltage, and yet mine started working properly only 
after I replaced the battery.  I can't think of any other explanation, but 
I'm open to suggestions.  I've never tried using this digital meter without 
a battery, but as JVHRoberts suggests, maybe it needs the battery for all 
functions.
