The Corvair Olympics was a BIG success!  Three days and nights of fun!  It wouldn’t have happened without the help and support of a lot of folks.  So now that we are all settling back to our normal lives (until Summit Point), it’s time to formally say thanks to everyone who made the Olympics possible.  So here goes in no particular order except for the first group.

First and foremost, the NECC wishes to thank all the ladies.  Without their patience and understanding, all of us would be collecting stamps or some other thrilling hobby.  They put up with endless nights of us under the car getting ready, ride many miles in a tow vehicle, do things like registration and timing and share our highs and lows as cars break and are repaired.  Here’s to them.
 
To Linda Coffin, Roberta O’Neill, Judy Briley and Kathy (Mrs. Ned as she is known) and Barbara  Egerton for timing at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Putnam Park.  To Debbie (hope that’s her name) Rapp for her superhuman efforts at the autocross. To Patty Ellison and Tracy McLean for being there and adding class to the whole operation.  To Sharon Leveque and Alexis Stafford for all their help, not only at the Olympics but through many years of supporting the Corvair hobby.  And to any other lady we might have missed—thank you.
 
Thanks go to all the family members who by being there added a special flavor to the event.  Anybody think they can bring more family than the Stafford clan?
 
The next thanks go to all the drivers.  Your cooperation, understanding and courtesy made what could have been a real circus, a professional level event.  Thank you and we’re glad you all had fun.  Even those with mechanical problems seemed to have a good time.
 
For their generosity in providing door prizes, thanks goes out to Kevin Clark, Spence Sheppard and Clarks’ Corvair Parts.  Sorry Spence for changing the award name on you.
 
Other thanks go to our long distance guys, Seth Emerson from sunny California and Kevin Wilson form the land of the midnight sun.  Kevin clearly demonstrated that us Corvair guys never say die.  He fixed the car, blistered the drag strip and tore up the autocross. As usual, Seth helped as needed and with Warren Leveque set up the autocross.  Thanks to Mike Dobie and Billy Bruce and their merry band of Romeos for making the trip.
 
Thanks to Bob Coffin and Tim Schwartz for the controlling the autocross afternoon shift.  Thanks to Rob Fike—it was a long day standing out there at the autocross finish and the drivers appreciated the timing slips.  To XXX for figuring out the timing box and then working it all day long.  Thanks to Bob Dunahugh for bringing the timing equipmentand cones.
 
A special thanks to Warren 2!  Yep that’s what he called himself.  He figured out the timing system at the autocross and worked it all day.  A lion hearted guy! 
 
Warren LeVeque also has to get special thanks for his help when we suddenly needed a new home for the autocross.  His advice and contact information lead us to the 16th Street parking lot and the unique autocross course.  Anybody notice that it looked like the outline of a Tweety?
 
Speaking of Tweeties, what would an NECC event or for that matter any Corvair performance event be without Tweeties?  Thanks Warren for them.  Your Friends of Corvairs Tweeties was a nice touch and helped us to recognize those who support us.
 
Thanks must go out to Tom Miller and the whole Circle City Corvair Club for their support.  If all they did was provide cold water at the autocross, it would be enough to endear them to us forever.  But they did more.  The car show was an added attraction and one we will continue and build on.  Thanks guys for it and for the Saturday night diner.  We must also thank Preston, the son of a Circle City member for helping with the door prize drawing.  He volunteered although he didn’t know it at the time.
 
Thanks to the Performance Corvair Group for supporting the Olympics when it was only a vague concept and for showing up in force.  If you’re not a member of PCG—join now! 
 
Lastly, thanks go out to all the NECC members.  They subordinate their own interests to make NECC events happen. To Ray Zabinski and his son Kevin for standing out there all day in the hot sun running the time trials. To Ron Manwaring for working with Ray to set up the drag race.  Great job, guys. To Al Lacki for timing, record keeping, result posting, web site design and maintenance, for dragging us into the 21st Century and for just being Al. To Ken Klingaman and Bill Cohen for driving all the way out to Indy and then doing everything and anything that was needed.  To John Egerton for inspecting the cars and for being very helpful to the competitors by offering suggestions to improve the safety of their cars.  Glad your new engine ran strong, John. To all the behind the scenes NECC guys.  To John Ryall for slogging through the registration process and to Tom Ludwig our money guy.  He’s a sweet talker who got the Indianapolis Parks department to issue a permit for the autocross site in just a couple of days!
