Yes, the 12v pos. post had too long a terminal connector coming from the ignition.  It was arcing ever so slightly drawing power from the coil and not getting the secondary voltage up to its correct voltage.  I saw some black residue at the point where the terminal connector was arcing against the coil housing.  Took six years to find it.  moral--NEVER give up!  Ernie
