<VV> power top motor information

When leaving the Hemmings car show two weeks ago, the power top motor stopped intermittently on my '69. I disconnected the drive cables and raised it by hand.
 
 It was not the relay, wiring, switch or circuit breaker.  Problem solved with a replacement motor. Question.........upon motor disassemble I noted a set of points in the motor below the brushes that  apparently have some sort of thermal function. Can someone out there confirm this? The motor will work if I wait a few minuets. I did not find anything in the '65 or '69 book on this. How do you adjust the points???
