Not good. It's not just the power the reciever puts out, it's the LOAD you 
put on the reciever. Not sure what impedence your speakers are, but putting 
them in parallel surely halves the impedence.
Most stuff today likes 4 ohms. There's 8, 10, and 40 ohm speakers out there 
also. Reciever (amp) and speaker impedence should match.
