Yes, I also find raising the car to help the back.

Get several different types of those magnet on a stick tools and also 
the grabber (finger) style. Very useful for retrieving bolts dropped in 
harmonic balancer area. Also somewhat good for fan area. But it was a 
good idea to remove the turkey roaster once to clean out years of leaves 
and other debris. You can cover the fan with a shop towel to help 
deflect dropped things.

The other black hole of parts is the openings in the manifold when you 
remove the carbs. If the magnet doesn't work, figure on removing the 
head! Always use shop rag or rubber plug to plug these holes.
